At SOFA Chicago 1999, CWA sponsored a special exhibit called “Collectors’
Choice.” Our members chose the artists. The exhibit was
a resounding success, and we decided to do it again at SOFA Chicago
2002. Balloting was completed in January, and CWA secretary Joe
Seltzer tabulated the results. Twenty-six artists were chosen,
and all have agreed to participate.
In keeping with the organization’s vision, a special effort
was made to include furniture artists. Members specifically identified
three furniture makers. In addition, Wendell Castle and Sam Maloof
have accepted special invitations to show their work. Wendell
will also speak at SOFA, in a CWA-sponsored event, on creativity
in wood.

Each
will present slides of his or her work at a CWA sponsored session
during SOFA Chicago.
Joe Seltzer reported than another forty-four artists each received
a substantial number of votes, with nine of them identified
as furniture makers. Joe reports a total of two hundred and
seventy-four artists named on the ballots.
We can expect this event to be the most exciting new assemblage
of wood art to be seen anywhere in 2002. For those who may be
unable to visit the actual show, a color catalog is being planned.
It should be ready for distribution when the show opens.
Don’t miss this special occasion October 24-27 at Chicago’s Navy Pier.
