The spectacular weather in Chicago helped make SOFA Chicago 2007 better than ever.
CWA sponsored two lectures on wood art:
Wood Art: From Nature to Hand - Jane Milosch, Curator, Renwick Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum, spoke to a standing-room-only crowd Friday afternoon about wood art in the Renwick collection.
Five Perspectives in Wood - Saturday afternoon, Harvey Fein, Liam Flynn, Ron Isaacs, Ron Layport and Joel Urruty amused and educated the audience with their talks and slide shows about the development of their work.
Four other lectures also featured wood art:
Conceptual Craft in the Wornick Collection, Contemporary Furniture at Crabtree Farm, Irish Contemporary Applied Arts in the Collection of the National Museum of Ireland and
Woodturning – Constructive Critique of Contemporary Work (sponsored by American Association of Woodturners).
Many galleries were new to SOFA. Of course, not all of them represented wood artists, but several did.
Saturday night, many CWA members and guests had a delicious, tongue-tingling dinner at Heaven on Seven, an informal Cajun eatery.
